Cab Calloway coined the term jitterbug.
Two things that Cab Calloway did really impacted the popularity of Jitterbug dance
- He stared in a film titled " Cab Calloway's Jitterbug Party
- He wrote a song titled "Call of the Jitterbug." Since Cab was a large icon in the music world the second he named the jitterbug it stuck.
- Wizard of Oz gave reference to the Jitterbug in an outtake. The wicked witch informs her flying monkeys that Dorthy and her clan should be no trouble, because she "sent a little insect on ahead to slow them down."
